Claudio Abbado has recorded Johannes Brahms' 1st Symphony several times - and the same goes for the Vienna Philharmonic. However, their first joint recording of the work from 1972 plays a special role in the discography of both the conductor and the orchestra, as it stands out in terms of interpretation and sound technology.
To mark its 125th anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon has launched the re-release of legendary recordings in the highest sound culture: The audiophile vinyl series The Original Source presents outstanding recordings from the 1970s in a completely new sound quality. For this, the renowned Emil Berliner Studios have remastered and edited the original four-track tapes in 100% analog quality (AAA) using technologies specially developed for the production of the series. The sound differences to the original releases are considerable: greater clarity, more subtleties and improvements in the frequency response, as well as less background noise, distortion and compression enable an audiophile listening experience like never before.
The copies of this series are published in limited and numbered quantities on 180g vinyl records and in a deluxe gatefold edition with original covers and texts, accompanied by additional photos and facsimiles of the recording protocols and tape boxes, and an article explains the exact technical background.
