The recording of the Peer Gynt Suites by Edvard Grieg with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan, which has been celebrated by audiences and the press, is now available on vinyl again. With their brilliant and expressive interpretation, Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra demonstrate an enormous sensitivity for the unique atmospheric sound language of the Norwegian composer. In addition to the outstanding sound quality and the audiophile remastering by Emil Berliner Studios, the high-quality 180g vinyl pressing by Optimal is particularly noteworthy. The plot of the drama "Peer Gynt" originally goes back to Norwegian fairy tales that were reworked into a dramatic poem by Henrik Ibsen. He commissioned Edvard Grieg to write the stage music, which premiered in Christiania in 1876. In 1888 and 1891, Grieg finally published the two Peer Gynt Suites compiled from the stage music, which have since become some of his best known compositions.
"The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan packs the popular and often recorded Peer Gynt Suites into an extremely luxurious, aesthetically perfect sound." HiFi-Stereophony 9 / 1983
