Evolving an Icon
The Gyro: Engineering with Soul

The Michell Gyro has never stood still. Since debuting in the early 1980s, it’s been refined countless times — each update sharpening performance while preserving its essence. Its design became iconic, its sound legendary, and its place in analogue history undeniable.

Now, the Gyro evolves again — not a reinvention, but a reimagining. Beneath its familiar form lies a complete engineering overhaul, delivering major gains in performance, usability, and reliability.

You’ll know it’s a Gyro at a glance — but look closer and listen, and you’ll hear something entirely new.

A Chassis Redefined

At its core, the new Gyro features a completely reworked chassis. Previous versions used cast aluminium; now, it’s precision-machined from 19mm aerospace-grade aluminium tooling plate. The result: exceptional accuracy, rigidity, and ultra-low resonance.

Embedded brass weights balance the tonearm assembly and absorb vibration, while foam damping around the tonearm mount prevents reflections that could mask musical detail.

Engineering Upgrades in Depth

1. Solid Aluminium Chassis with Brass Energy Control
Before: Cast aluminium with inconsistent density
Now: Precision-machined aluminium with embedded brass counterweights

Uniform billet construction ensures predictable resonance and energy control. Brass inserts stabilise the tonearm and absorb energy.
Improvements: Cleaner midrange, tighter imaging, more lifelike instrument placement.

2. AI-Optimised Vibration Control
Before: Manually tuned suspension
Now: FEA and AI-assisted simulation for structural optimisation

Advanced modelling refines mass distribution, counterweight placement, and damping zones, dissipating vibration before it reaches sensitive areas.
Improvements: Lower noise floor, enhanced microdynamics, superior rhythm and clarity.

3. Precision Tonearm Coupling
Before: Delrin spacers
Now: Rigid metal interface for direct connection

Replacing flexible Delrin with machined metal improves energy transfer and timing accuracy.
Improvements: Faster transients, greater low-level detail, deeper silence between notes.

4. Re-Tuned Suspension with Equilibria™
Before: Three-point springs at ~4.5Hz
Now: Retuned to 3.5Hz with lateral damping

Equilibria™ self-centres and stabilises lateral motion while maintaining vertical isolation below most room vibrations.
Improvements: Better low-frequency control, improved pitch stability, faster recovery from movement.

5. High-Mass Aluminium Baseplate
Before: Lightweight acrylic frame
Now: Precision-machined aluminium

A rigid, inert base provides a stable mechanical ground for the suspension to operate optimally.
Improvements: Deeper bass, cleaner midrange, stronger isolation.

6. Sorbothane™ Isolation Feet (Revolv Type)
Before: Small aluminium feet
Now: Composite feet with six Sorbothane™ nodules

This advanced viscoelastic polymer converts vibration into heat, offering superior absorption and control.
Improvements: Quieter backgrounds, smoother flow, greater detail at low levels.

7. Smoothed Platter Styling
Before: Visible belt groove
Now: Sleeker platter edge

A subtle aesthetic update gives the Gyro a modern, refined look while maintaining performance.
Improvements: Cleaner, more contemporary design.

8. Motor Pod Redesign with Electronic Speed Control
Before: Manual belt swap for speed
Now: Shielded, grounded motor with electronic 33/45 switching

A re-engineered enclosure minimises noise and interference while simplifying speed changes.
Improvements: Easier operation, quieter background, smoother playback.

9. Double-Helix Oil Pumping Bearing
Before: Single-helix oil groove
Now: Double-helix for twice the oil flow

The enhanced bearing provides superior lubrication and lower wear, ensuring consistent rotation and long-term stability.
Improvements: Reduced friction, improved platter stability, extended lifespan.

The Best Gyro Yet

This is the Gyro evolved — refined in every respect. Every update was made for one reason: to let the music shine through with greater focus, energy, and emotion.

It’s not just better engineering — it’s a deeper connection to your music.

It’s the Gyro — only more of everything that made you fall in love with it in the first place.
