PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier
The PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier is a bold leap forward in analog playback—unlike anything vinyl lovers have experienced before.
Designed from the ground up by PS Audio engineer Darren Myers, this revolutionary phono stage features a cutting-edge transimpedance input and a zero-feedback topology that removes distortion, coloration, and noise to reveal the pure truth hidden in the grooves.
It’s the first phono preamp in our 50-year history to bear the name of our founder—because it had to be that good. With dual inputs for moving coil and moving magnet cartridges, plus remote-controlled loading and gain, the PMG Signature integrates effortlessly into any reference system. Its fully discrete FET design delivers massive headroom, ultra-low noise, and explosive dynamics that bring records vividly to life.
This is not just a phono preamp—it’s a liberation of analog. Vinyl, like you’ve never heard it.
Design
Even at the highest levels, many phono preamps are compromised by integrated circuits, shared power supplies, limited headroom, or simplified signal paths. The PMG Signature eliminates those compromises entirely. From inception, this was a no-expense-spared effort to create the finest phono stage possible.
There are no op-amps or integrated circuits in the signal path. Every gain stage is built from hand-selected discrete FETs and BJTs operating in pure Class A. The topology is fully complementary and direct-coupled, chosen for its ability to deliver the lowest distortion, highest resolution, and complete absence of sonic fingerprint.
The result is extraordinary headroom, ultra-low noise, and lightning-fast transient response—capable of rendering the most delicate nuance and the most explosive dynamic swing with equal authority.
Built to stand the test of time, the PMG Signature stands head and shoulders above anything we—or anyone—have built. If you’re ready to hear how far vinyl playback can truly go, you’re ready for PMG Signature.
Application
The PMG Signature is a true reference component, designed to partner with the finest tonearms, cartridges, and turntables in the world. It redefines analog playback with unmatched transparency, explosive dynamics, and a vanishingly low noise floor.
Its revolutionary transimpedance input provides a direct, uncolored path for low-output moving coil cartridges—eliminating loading concerns and revealing detail, texture, and spatial information conventional designs often obscure. For traditional setups, the voltage input offers adjustable gain and loading, all controlled remotely from the listening chair.
With dual inputs for two tonearms, fully discrete zero-feedback circuitry, and precision control throughout, the PMG Signature represents the current state of the art—regardless of price.
Overview
PS Audio’s first product in 1975 was a phono preamplifier. Fifty years later, we return to our roots with something extraordinary.
Designed by Darren Myers and bearing our founder’s name for the first time, the PMG Signature introduces a groundbreaking zero-feedback architecture—a first in PS Audio’s history. By eliminating global feedback, the design avoids reactive error correction that can smear transients, dull dynamics, and blur timing.
The result is remarkable. Surface noise separates from the music itself. The performance detaches from the speakers with lifelike presence and clarity. Once heard, it’s impossible to forget.
An optional pure current-mode transimpedance input further advances performance for low-output moving coil cartridges. Requiring no cartridge loading and offering unmatched transparency, it opens a window into recordings that voltage-input designs cannot match.
With fully discrete Class A FET circuitry, massive headroom, and support for all cartridge types, the PMG Signature is the finest phono stage in our 50-year history. From the first needle drop, vinyl feels reborn.
A Revolutionary Design
At the heart of the PMG Signature lies a decisive engineering choice: the complete elimination of global feedback.
Using high-voltage discrete FETs and hand-selected bipolar transistors in a fully complementary topology, Darren Myers achieved what few engineers attempt—a stable, quiet, zero-feedback phono stage with vanishingly low noise and distortion.
Feedback circuits must first allow an error before correcting it. While effective for tidy measurements, this reactive process can soften transients and obscure timing. Designing without feedback demands extreme precision, deep device knowledge, and meticulous tuning.
The payoff is extraordinary. Music flows organically and effortlessly. Surface noise recedes into the background. The performance emerges untethered, alive with texture and dimensionality.
This is analog purity without compromise.
An Inside Look
The PMG Signature’s mass and construction immediately signal its intent. Every detail is engineered for performance, silence, and longevity.
It begins with a solid 1.5-inch block of CNC-machined 6062 aluminum forming the front panel and structural base. Surrounding the circuitry is a fully isolated EMI shield, topped by a thick aluminum cover—creating a triple-layered chassis that delivers exceptional rigidity and noise rejection.
The transimpedance input sets it apart. Unlike traditional voltage-input stages, it accepts pure current from a low-output moving coil cartridge. This eliminates resistive loading and optimizes cartridge behavior, resulting in lower noise, greater transparency, tighter bass, and a more direct connection to the music.
Combined with a fully discrete zero-feedback Class A circuit and dual selectable inputs for two tonearms, the PMG Signature delivers over 70dB of gain—supporting cartridges down to 0.15mV without strain. Single-ended and balanced outputs ensure seamless integration into any high-end system.
This is more than a phono preamplifier. It’s a precision instrument. A celebration of analog engineering at its highest level. A work of art unlike anything in our history—or in the history of vinyl itself.
